Its breadth of experience and knowledge comes from its partner, Kali Watson, President and CEO of Hawaiian Community Development (HCD), who is intimately involved in the islands and the communities that represent the “Aloha Spirit.” It follows HCD’s express mission of supporting and promoting housing, community, and economic development projects that benefit families living in the Hawaiian Home Lands communities throughout the

state of Hawaii. From providing affordable workforce, Kapuna, family and student housing to developing commercial centers that directly benefit the local community, Pupukahi is committed to giving back to the Hawaiian community. Pupukahi Development, LLC is currently developing and constructing a 6 acre commercial center located in Nanakuli, HI on the island of Oahu known as Nanakuli Village Center of which some of the tenants include: Long’s/CVS, Fresenius, Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, Starbucks, Super Cuts, L & L Barbeque and Pizza Hut.

In an effort to determine their own destiny, obtain self-governance, and independence from the state's oversight, and after many years of intensive community-based planning, the Nanakuli Hawaiian Homestead Community Association (NHHCA) with the help of Hawaiian Community Development Board (HCDB) is developing a major “village center” project that will include a multipurpose learning center, a 48-unit affordable rental housing complex, a Waianae Comp satellite health clinic with an affordable drug pharmacy, a large renal clinic and a commercial center with Longs as the anchor tenant.
